About the project

A purpose built Laboratory/Research Building constructed on the Institute of Marine Sciences site at Eastney, Portsmouth. The building comprised of standard and wet laboratory facilities, operating theatre, tank holding rooms, freezer room and quarantine area.

Understanding the challenges

The building was serviced using underfloor heating fed by air source heat pumps with automatic lighting controls with timed and red light facilities in the holding rooms along with raw and processed seawater distribution to holding areas and wet laboratory. Ozone waste treatment was provided to discharge waste seawater from the quarantine area to EA standards and the quarantine laboratory was constructed to Home Office standards. Access control, data and security systems were also provided.
