A new Humanities Block and 6th Form Centre constructed on the existing college site overlooking the cricket pitch. RHB were commissioned to carry out the full design and monitoring of the services installation of this new state of the art building. The building consists of a two storey construction containing 14 classrooms, 2 study rooms, two staffrooms and a student common room along with various offices and toilet accommodation all opening onto a common two storey street.
The building is heated and cooled using air source heat pumps with the supply air being tempered by air handling units on the roof and conditioned locally by fan coil units. The lighting installation consists of dimmable luminaires with daylight linked photocells and absence detection, toilet lighting is switched using presence detection. Solar water heating is provided to supply hot water to the toilet accommodation. Access control is provided throughout with small power provided by an underfloor power distribution system with busbars and floor boxes. All classrooms are fitted with interactive whiteboards and data distribution is achieved using underfloor distribution to floor boxes.
