Stuart Lawrence, BIM Partner, and Steve Maisham, Principal Mechanical Engineer, recently attended the official opening of Fareham College’s state-of-the-art Energy Hub.
Charlie Luxton, an architectural designer and TV presenter (who fronts programs including Building the Dream and Homes by the Sea) with a real passion for sustainable construction and the environment, was the perfect person to open the space officially.
The facilities total a £1.4 million investment and include integrated technology, electric and hybrid charging points, ground and air source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, and technology for smart homes.
This 9,000 square foot space has been repurposed from a sports hall to an industry-leading facility equipped with the latest technology to prepare students for their careers. A mock house has been built central to the space featuring solar panels and a steel car canopy for electric vehicle charging stations. The exterior roof of the state-of-the-art Energy Hub is equipped with over 75 active Solar Edge PV panels as part of the development’s target to become self-sustaining.
In consultation with the college, RHB produced a concept design for the MEP services in the facility.
During the evening, Stuart and Steve also took part in an advice and insights session alongside other architects, consultants, and manufacturers, introducing the students to the construction industry.
