Client
Vistry Group South London
About the project
Phase 2 of the Pike Close regeneration continues Riverside’s ambition to create a modern, sustainable, and resident-focused estate. This phase introduces two new residential blocks: Block A, which rises to 8 stories and includes 29 apartments, and Block B, which rises to 13 stories and comprises 42 apartments, delivering a total of 71 new homes.
A key aspect of Phase 2 is its role in advancing the estate’s transition to zero-carbon heating. The energy centre established in Phase 1 will be upgraded by installing a centralised air source heat pump (ASHP) system on the roof of Block B. This retrofit will replace the temporary gas-fired plant and allow for low-carbon heat distribution throughout the development via the district heating network.
As the MEP consultant, RHB is responsible for the design and coordination of all building services. We ensure that the mechanical, electrical, and public health systems are fully integrated with the client’s zero-carbon objectives, operational strategy, and phased delivery plan. Our goal is to make sure that each stage of the project contributes consistently to Riverside’s long-term vision of a high-performing, low-maintenance neighbourhood.
Understanding the challenges
Phase 2 is critical in realising Riverside’s long-term vision for a fully electric, low-carbon estate that is safe, future-ready, and simple to operate. Transitioning from a gas-fired plant to Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) infrastructure requires careful coordination among existing and new systems. This includes load matching, plant sizing, noise mitigation at the rooftop level, and planning for resilience.
Our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) strategy aims to facilitate this transition through systems that are robust, scalable, and designed for long-term sustainability. By aligning technical delivery with operational simplicity, we are helping Riverside create a community that benefits both its residents and those who manage it.
